The Waggonner and McElroy Wedding
Celebrated November 3, 2013
There were Three Celebrating a Marriage
The ceremony was perfect, the message so touching
The Officient, the minister from Harmony Hill , in Lufkin, Texas
included everyone in the new family during the Ceremony.
The day was overcast but the rains held off until the beautiful ceremony was completed. Over 300 guests attended the wedding with parking extending to the lake.
Old church benches and rustic arch with boulders flanking the entrance set the mood
of times long ago. The groomsmen had bow ties, white shirts and suspenders reminiscent of the old days when Texas was very young. Very appropriate as the wedding was held in Houston County, the oldest County in the Republic of Texas. The bridesmaids were equally beautiful and graceful and very attentive to the Bride.
The Bride and Groom were made for each other and they have known this since 6th Grade.
A beautiful Bride and Handsome Groom who made all their guests feel welcome and encouraged a fun reception with delicious food prepared by family. The Decor was so enchanting. The entrance 'cart' was placed near the Mid-Deck entry. It was adorned with lights and vintage items of ' taking a journey' together symbolic of their life from here-on out. Vintage typewriter encouraging guests to help the couple begin the first chapter of their lives together with notes written on old post cards....with words of wisdom and encouragement. The earth-globe sitting atop old books seemed to say 'the world is yours and your are beginning your lifelong journey together' ....go like the wind.
Old leather suitcases seemed to suggest that inside these were fulled with hopes, desires and ambitions for the new life together.
Old lace, crochet, tablecloths, burlap ...and many other items with a history of use in times past were used as decor inside the lobby and on the Mid-Deck and Dance Deck as well. Bibical passages were cut in heart shapes and sprinkled on the Lobby table. An Old trunk was placed at the entry to the front gallery-maybe to symbolically hold great memories, a huge place for lots of wonderful recollections. Wooden window frames used inside the lobby, wooden boxes, louvered doors.....enhanced the feel of 'these were part of a life before and continue to be as well'. Just as delightful now as they were when new. This is a good parallel for those who marry and continue into old age with the same love for each other as they had when 'new' or younger and hopefully even more so.
The candy buffet was just delightful and reminiscent of somewhere around 80 years ago when grandparents and parents delighted in the Chick-O-Stick or Peanut Butter Bar for the first time and can still do so today. The famous Atkinson's Candy was a hit with everyone.
Night fell and the dancing and visiting began. The moon, not exactly full, but almost, was rising in an eastward direction and glistened on the lake. Music ranged from modern to older selections. (I know I heard one 47 years old and I thorougly enjoyed it.....a delightful surprise. ) The couple made their exit in a sleek black vintage Cadillac.
