Dalyah and Derrick
In the depths of the forest where the waters of the Cochino Bayou contribute to the streams that have watered the land for eons and made life here possible...... a wonderful celebration occurred. A beautiful ceremony was held on a hill side facing the East... on sacred ground it is believed. The guests were seated on vintage church pews given to Cochino by Allen Chapel, near Ratcliff. These pews must be blessed. They have seen celebrations as well as sadness and are still useful after all these years. Today they saw happiness and Celebration. Dalyah and Derrick were united in holy matrimony, with vows from their hearts to each other. Amid tears the couple each made their vows with honesty and to last forever. The ceremony was multifaceted. The brides favorite horse was a part of the ceremony background. . The couple's 'other family member' , a beautiful dog was a part of the ceremony as well. One of the attendants rang a large bell as he went down the aisle to alert the congregation that 'the bride was coming'. Red rose petals covered the walkway for the bride to meet her groom at the alter. Toward the end of the ceremony the bride and groom 'jumped the broom' a tradition that in times past was a symbol of union and commitment. And it still is . It is said, that if the groom jumps higher than the bride it means that he has leadership of the household. Derrick did you JUMP HIGHER????. Who jumped the Highest?????
The wedding officiant did a great job conducting the wedding ceremony. He was very knowledgeable , efficient and had a good presence and presentation..
Such a big family and so many friends attended the wedding. The guests were welcomed into the magical ambiance created by Genna Lewis and her mom Dottie. The feel of elegance mixed with lanterns, colorful bottles, sunflowers and greenery, log slices, lace and silver made for an eclectic feel of old world. It had a warm and welcoming feeling. The cake was made and delivered by Catha Woods (along with her husband assisting her ) It was beautiful and Delicous as well as the grooms cake. …..which was reminiscent of a phonograph record. And a sign made by Genna out of a vintage record that said """ Just for the Record, I'm marrying the Love of My Live"""". This was adorable.
There was 28 feet of food on the Buffet and extensions... for the many guests. Several different meats, Beans, green beans, Macaroni and cheese, Green Salad, Potato Salad, rolls and a lot more. Tea, lemonade, fruit punch. The family men cooked the food and it was delivered, on time and delicious. What a great asset....men cooking.
There was great music by the uncle of the Bride. He had old and new sounds that kept the crowd moving and having a great and memorable time.
It was such a pleasure meeting this gathering of family and friends. Some of us knew of the same histories and people of our community in the area. It was good reminiscing about the past, about life and times of a by gone era. It was good making new acquaintances as well. It is amazing how you can connect with people that you have never met and find so much in common and are so much alike. None of us were strangers. Everyone was happy. Weddings are great as they provide the occasion for making for a new family unit and wishing them well, but also a gathering to keep in touch with family and to make a solid unit and model for the new couple to follow.
Mr. and Mrs. Richards will live happily ever after.
Derrick and Dalyah
